Fitness - Know Your 'Why' For Better Motivation & Greater Consistency

When you start a new fitness regime or any new regime for that matter, you deserve huge credit in mustering the initial motivation and drive that led you to do so.

However, it's important to understand that when we travel down that 'fitness' road, it's somewhat inevitable that they'll be times where we'll falter. We may experience demotivation, boredom, overburden, and perhaps even burnout.

That is totally fine and normal.

This happens to me and to many of my clients. Often is the case, a simple period of spending time away from the stresses of fitness, or specifically the acts needed to get fit, can be hugely advantageous to your goals.

Sit back, spend time with your pals or family, and allow yourself to 'switch off' for a week or so.

You'll often find that this time spent away from fitness can help you reflect and re-evaluate your fitness goals and why they were important to you in the first place.

Know Your Why.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with this term being in the business world and all. Its purpose is the exact same within fitness. Ask yourself...

  • Why did you start in the first place?

  • Was it to lose weight?

  • Was it to be healthier for your kids?

  • Was it to look cracking on the beach?

  • Was it to boost energy and therefore work performance?

Within fitness, the power behind regularly reminding yourself of 'your why' can be the key, or at least one of them, to sticking to your regime and being consistent.

Try it for yourself. If you're currently out of your regime and can't face performing another squat, go back to your why.

This should help you recap and clearly identify why you started in the first place.

Use this as motivation, use this as drive, and get 'yer ass' back in the gym ;-)
